FAQs

What are you doing to protect the public?

  1. All supplier and home deliveries are now 100% contactless.

  2. Our jerk marinade contains salt, vinegar and lemon, all of which have natural antibacterial properties. Every piece of jerk sits in this marinade for a minimum of 48 hours.

  3. We've butcher our own chickens from whole, meaning less human handling.

  4. Our online delivery service has never accepted cash on delivery (unless you'd tipped our driver directly). For the time being, we are 100% cashless. If you'd still like to leave a tip, please do this online when you place your order.

  5. Handwashing and exceptional hygiene and cleanliness will be as important as always.

  6. We will be reviewing our HACCP and Health & Safety Policies in line with official government guidance and best practices on an ongoing basis.

  7. You can view our C-19 Compliance Statement here.

Where will you be opening next?

We know a lot of you have been wanting to try our food but couldn't due to our opening hours. If we're successful with our bid, our new location will be a 7-days-a-week operation. Now that we're online only, your support will be more important than ever, especially since we're not on any of the large delivery platforms. We'll keep you posted!

When will you return to street food markets?

There are a lot of unknowns at this moment. For now, we're focussed on staying safe and paying the bills.

You've only just opened, why the hell is            out of stock?

Our customers are unlike any other. Sometimes they'll order 5 (you read that right) Smokey Joes all at once. Now imagine if three customers did that in the space of 10 minutes, which happens. We do whatever we can to ensure we make enough but since we cook everything fresh, demand for a particular item can fluctuate wildly. Our advice? Order early!

Will you be offering DIY meal kits?

Maybe...

Where can I find allergen information?

You can find allergen information for each dish in the item descriptions at www.shellybellys.com/order. Please note that we cannot guarantee that our food is free from trace allergens. If you'd like more information about the ingredients in your meal, always get in touch with us.

Got any vegan options?

Our vegan special, Ackee and Callaloo, is seasonally available and tends to sell out quite fast. Please check our website and order early to avoid disappointment.

Is your meat halal? Don't lie.

Yes! All of our meat is halal and sustainably sourced. From our local butchers in Walthamstow to J. F. Edwards of Smithfield, our mix of local and national suppliers gives us the best range of high quality, high welfare halal meat. We're in the process of obtaining a halal certificate, but in the meantime, you can rest assured that us claiming that our meat is halal when it isn't is both dishonest and illegal.

Are you Halal Monitoring Committee (HMC) certified?

No. We work directly with some of the UK's most trusted meat suppliers who share our commitment to source high-welfare meat rather than focussing on gaining certification that places an emphasis on the method of slaughter. We choose animal welfare over a piece of paper all day, any day.

Do you deliver?

Yep. Check your delivery area when placing your order.

Why can't I find you on Just Eat, Uber Eats or Deliveroo?

We manage our delivery service in house to ensure you receive the best Shellybelly's experience. In the event something goes wrong, we want to be the ones you call to have it put right.

What's going on? I can't place an order.

If you're having trouble placing your order, check you're not using a locked-down browser, work computer or work wi-fi as your IT department may have blocked this specific type of traffic on your network. Ordering on your mobile (using your own mobile data network) is just as fast and easy with no app to download. If you still get stuck, shoot us a message via the chat bubble.

Why does it say my food may take up to 90 minutes to arrive?

We don't like to brag, but last year over 98% of our deliveries were made by bike. This year, we're aiming for 100%. 90 minutes gives us a reasonable amount of time to get through deliveries during our busiest weekends and we're generally much faster than this. It's a difficult balance to strike but hey - it's good for our health as well as your lungs! We like to think the trade-off is worth it.
